Video – How to Underline Chapter Headers in MS Word
There’s two ways to do this. The first is to configure the settings in the style, so that every time you create a heading it will be underlined.
The other is to manually underlining a heading, maybe if you want to draw special emphasis to it.
Video – Use Styles to Underline Chapter Headers
In this video, we show how to update a style so that the chapter heading is underlined.
Something to consider is to create a new MS Word template (.dotx file) and save the updated styles to this template. Otherwise, the changes you have made will be saved to your normal.dotx file. This is fine, however, if you later change this template or if Word becomes corrupt, you’ll lose your settings.
How to Manually Underline Chapter Headers
To underline chapter headings in Microsoft Word, you can use the formatting options available in the program. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Select the Chapter Heading: Click anywhere within the text of the chapter heading that you want to underline.
- Access the Font Dialog Box: There are a few different ways to access the Font dialog box:
- Press Ctrl + D.
- Right-click on the selected text and choose Font from the context menu.
- On the Home tab in the ribbon, click on the small arrow in the bottom right corner of the Font group.
- Apply Underline Style: In the Font dialog box, navigate to the Underline
- Click on the drop-down menu next to Underline style to choose the desired underline style (e.g., single, double, dotted).
- You can also adjust the underline color and underline effects if needed.
- Click OK: Once you’ve selected the desired underline style, click OK to apply the changes and close the Font dialog box.
