Question: How do I open 2 Excel files in separate windows so I can view them side by side?
When I try to do this, it opens each one in the same window. What am I doing wrong?
Answer: You can open multiple windows into a workbook to view or work with different areas of your workbook simultaneously.
To open multiple windows into a workbook, follow these steps:
1. In Microsoft Excel, open your workbook.
2. Click the View tab, then New Window in the Window group. The new file is displayed on top of the first file.
You have two options here.
1. Drag the file to the side of the screen, and click back and forth between the worksheets.
2. Use the Side By Side option to split the screen, so that one file is displayed on top, and the second on the bottom of the screen.
Use the Sync Scrolling option to sync when you scroll up and down.
