If you live in the Google ecosystem, and now find yourself working more in Gemini, you might be looking for ways to export its responses to MS Word.
In general, I do A LOT of prep stuff in Gemini, then pull it into Word for the actual writing.
With that said, I thought I’d show you how to export your AI responses from Gemini into Word. It’s simple when you know how to do it. Let’s take a look.
1. Export Response to Google Docs
Step one is to save the Gemini response to Google Docs by using the native ‘Export’ feature, which bypasses manual copying and pasting.
This feature is available directly within the Gemini web interface.
Procedure
- Generate Content: Ensure the response you wish to save has been fully generated.
- Access Export: Locate the “Share & export” button or icon, typically found below the AI’s response. Look for the < sign.
- Select Destination: Click “Export to Docs” from the menu options.
- Verification: A notification will confirm that a new Google Doc has been created and saved automatically to your Google Drive. The document will generally be titled based on your initial prompt.
Key Benefits of Direct Export
- Format Preservation: Headers, bulleted lists, tables, and code blocks are typically converted accurately into Google Docs formatting
- Efficiency: Eliminates the manual steps of highlighting, copying, opening a new document, and pasting.
- Availability: This feature is available for users signed into a Gmail account.
2. Download to Microsoft Word
While there is no native “Export to Word” button within the Gemini interface, there is a workaround.
Procedure
- In Google Gemini, export the response to Google Docs.
- In Google Docs, click File > Download.
- Select Microsoft Word.
You can now open the file in MS Word.
While it takes a few steps to get there, this option to save Gemini’s response to MS Word works much better than copy and pasting. It saves all the formatting including the table structures.
