No one will thank you for it. Unless you’re asked… and even if you are asked for advice, pause for a moment and consider why you’ve been asked.
You might be surprised to find that what you’re about to say…
… could later come back to haunt you.
The reason I wrote this post is that I fell into the trap of given someone advice last week.
They didn’t ask for it. But I thought they needed to hear it.
They listened to what I had to say and then said. ‘Thank you. That sounds like an opinion.’
Lesson learnt?
Unless someone specifically asks you for advice, don’t give it. It’s rarely taken as you would expect.
Chances are they’ll be offended and… may give some advice in return.
